Understanding each other
Massage Therapy has been proven to help with boosting the body's immune response, as well as helping the healing process for scar tissue, tears, strains, and all sorts of physical injuries to the tissue. Each day, our bodies are growing and changing, we are creating new tissue, and our immune systems are fighting new pathogens. Each time a person receives a massage and healing session, the needs of the body will be different. I am able to closely connect with each patient in a very relaxed setting and "feel out" exactly what needs to be addressed on a particular day. There is no cardboard cut-out assembly line of massages in my practice. No two massages are ever exactly alike.
After 10 years in private practice, I have been evolving a very particular style of massage therapy, which is based in the modalities in which I originally trained, Swedish and Shiatsu, as well as other techniques and practices I have learned along the way, including energy work such as Polarity Therapy, Reiki, and mechanical techniques taught by the Jones Institute for physical therapists and chiropractors. This special blend of therapies offers a chance for you, the patient, and me, the therapist, to find a method (or several methods combined, as is often the case) which increases the likelihood of our session having an immediate healing effect on your body.
The focus of my work within each session is to provide you with a healing experience, whether this takes on shades of medical massage or balancing your energy field; quite often both of these are employed. Over the course of several sessions, you may notice the profound healing effects on your body, and an increased level of physical awareness within your own consciousness. The emotional and physical effects experienced through in-depth bodywork can be life changing in the best possible ways. Postural distortions, chronic pain, strange symptoms of the psychosomatic sort, among other various complaints, will begin to resolve. You will begin to feel more in touch with your own body, and start to notice when things aren't quite right. Because of these changes, and questions that might arise, it is important that I stay informed of your progress, and for you to communicate what your needs are. Therefore, each session becomes a very personal and specific massage, evolving to meet the particular demands of the moment.
Tools from all of my different modalities may be employed at any time, but you may be amazed at the seamless transition between techniques, as they have evolved into a fluid style. My personal bodywork and yoga viewpoint is to "go with the flow." Essentially, this means being open to what is present and responding with grace. In the face of pain or discomfort, this is especially helpful. I will never use needless force or attempt to go to a level of pain in order to alleviate your tissue issue. And I will listen to you and your breath closely, to make sure we are on the same wavelength.
